Pet-Safe Plants for Cats & Dogs
Looking for plants that are safe around your pets? The ASPCA animal poison control list explicitly names 25 plants from our database as non-toxic to dogs and cats. Those come first — 15 of them work as houseplants.
Below that are 143 plants we consider harmless but that no external poison list covers. We keep them apart on purpose: we would rather tell you what we do not know.
Even non-toxic plants can cause mild stomach upset if pets chew large amounts. When in doubt, seek veterinary advice.

143 plants. We know of no risk to dogs or cats, and the ASPCA does not list them at all — neither as toxic nor as non-toxic. That is not a clean bill of health: if your pet chews on plants, ask your vet first.
Some carry an amber note. Those plants appear in the veterinary CliniTox database (University of Zurich) with a general toxicity grade. That grade covers plants in general, not dogs and cats specifically — sage is listed as „slightly toxic" there while the ASPCA explicitly calls it non-toxic to pets. So it is shown as a note, not as a verdict.
