Privacy Policy
Updated: 2026-06-24 · Controller: see Imprint · Translation of the German version, which is legally binding.
1. Which data is processed?
Stored in your browser (LocalStorage)
When you use the garden planner the following data is stored exclusively in your browser — it does NOT leave your device:
- Climate zone, garden type (raised bed/balcony/field/greenhouse), garden size
- Household size, self-sufficiency goal, experience level
- Your selected plants with quantities
- Your bed positions (drag&drop layout)
You can delete this data at any time via "Reset profile" on the My-Garden page or via your browser settings (clear cache).
When you send feedback (optional, voluntary)
If you use the feedback form, your input (category, optionally plant-slug, message, optionally your email) is sent to the third-party service Web3Forms (Saik3D Technologies LLC, USA), which forwards the message to Maikel's email. Web3Forms stores submissions for 30 days for spam filtering, then deletes them. Web3Forms privacy policy: https://web3forms.com/privacy
Server logs (Cloudflare Pages)
When you load the site, our host Cloudflare Pages processes technically necessary data (IP address, user-agent, request URL, timestamp). These are used for security and performance (attack protection, caching). Cloudflare privacy policy: https://www.cloudflare.com/privacypolicy/
External content
Plant images and texts come from Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons, GBIF. These are embedded once at build time — when you visit the site, NO live requests are made to these services.
Interactive maps (OpenStreetMap)
On pages with an interactive map (e.g. the map page or plant pages with distribution data) your browser loads the map tiles live from the servers of the OpenStreetMap Foundation. In doing so, OpenStreetMap receives technically necessary data — in particular your IP address — in order to deliver the tiles. This only happens on pages with a map; the rest of the site makes no such requests, and no advertising cookies are set. OpenStreetMap privacy policy: https://wiki.osmfoundation.org/wiki/Privacy_Policy
Advertising (Google AdSense)
This site is partly financed by ads from Google AdSense (Google Ireland Ltd.). For this, Google code is loaded on the pages, which may set cookies and process data — including your IP address as well as device and usage information — in order to deliver and measure ads and to protect against abuse. In the EU, Google obtains your consent before serving personalised ads via its own consent banner. You can decline — then only non-personalised ads are shown. How Google processes data for advertising: https://policies.google.com/technologies/ads
Photo identification (optional, voluntary)
Only if you actively use the "Identify by photo" feature on the search page, your photo is sent via our server function to the third-party service Pl@ntNet (Cirad/INRAE/IRD/Inria, France/EU) to identify the plant. The image is downscaled in your browser before sending; this removes EXIF metadata (including GPS location). We do not store your photos. Pl@ntNet legal notice: https://plantnet.org/en/legal-notice/
2. Cookies, tracking and advertising
Donum Dei itself uses NO own analytics, NO Facebook pixel, NO social-media plugins and NO external fonts. Cookies and data processing can only arise from two embedded services: Google AdSense (advertising, see above) and the OpenStreetMap maps (see above). Without these two features the site is free of tracking. Your garden data always stays exclusively local on your device.
3. Your rights (GDPR)
- Access to stored data (Art. 15 GDPR)
- Rectification of incorrect data (Art. 16)
- Erasure of your data (Art. 17)
- Restriction of processing (Art. 18)
- Data portability (Art. 20)
- Objection to processing (Art. 21)
- Complaint to a supervisory authority
