  • CompressAerial partsExternalFolk medicine

External folk use: goldenrod compress for slow-healing wounds and skin irritations — traditionally known as 'heathen woundwort'.

    Preparation & dosage

COMPRESS / POULTICE: Steep 5–10 g goldenrod herb in 200 ml boiling water for 15 min covered, strain, cool to lukewarm. Soak a clean linen cloth in the infusion, wring slightly, apply to the affected area. Leave on 15–20 min 2× daily. Folk use as a wound herb for slow-healing wounds, skin rashes and local inflammation — hence the vernacular name 'heathen woundwort'. Do not apply to open, weeping wounds; if signs of infection appear (redness, swelling, fever) consult a doctor.
